I recently discovered that MARCUS JONES who operates JONES MEMORIALS and HALF OFF STONES and one of the most notorious con men defrauding people on the internet is back in business after a brief hiatus. I guess that he was waiting for the "heat" to die down before showing his deceitful mug again in his quest for further victims to defraud.
MARCUS JONES masquerades as a religious man who claims to be studying for the ministry. He hooks his victims in with his trustworthy southern voice and kindly manner. You can then expect a nice drawing of the marker that he will make for you. That is all you will see because once you give him any money you will never hear from him again. He will pocket your money and laugh all the way to the bank. Both MARCUS JONES and his wife (his partner in crime) have declared bankruptcy several times in order to avoid paying their obligations.
He preys on people who are getting over the death of a loved one and steals their money. He is nothing but a common thief. Perhaps when he is studying for his "ministry" he forgot about the seventh commandment "Thou Shall not Steal". The only ministry this crook is studying for is the church of thievery and the pocket of MARCUS JONES PROFESSIONAL THIEF.
If you notice his latest website he avoids all mention of his business address, email address or any semblance of information linking him to his fraudulent business practices. This is because he is hoping that innocent consumers will not read further on the web about his con game. If one takes the time to look, they will discover that ever reference to his business on-line is UNFAVORABLE.
He stole $1,000.00 from me for a very large stone. I spent months and eventually years trying to get him to deliver. I left messages. I was given promises, he swore to God that he was delivering the stone in a week. Guess what? No stone and I had to buy it from a local dealer.
I reported him to the State of Tennesee, the Better Business Bureau and ultimately sent him a letter threatening legal action. I am an attorney and one would expect that this would have some kind of effect. However, he stole my money just like the hundreds of other victims that he has defrauded. The State of Tennesee and BBB were helpless in dealing with such a hardcore thief and I am planning on making it my business to stop this criminal from stealing other grieving families money. In fact, I may just sue him in New York and get a judgment against him.
I have attached the State of Tennesee Dept. of Consumers affairs "Buyer Beware" entry for JONES MEMORIALS together with a warning posted by the Better Business Bureau.

04/10/08
April 10, 2008 [Nashville, Tennessee] BBB alerts consumers to the business practices of Jones Memorials aka HalfOffStones.com owned and operated by Marcus Jones. To date, BBB has not received a resolution to the 28 unanswered and unresolved complaints. If you have had an unsatisfactory business experience with this company please file a complaint at www.GoBBB.org .The BBB will supply a copy of your complaint the Tennessee Attorney General for further review.

The Truth from Marcus D. Jones
He refers to me as Notorious. I have provided over 1,000 orders to people for whom I have never seen and because he did not get his on time now I am notorious. He refers to me as having a deceitful mug when in actuality this person has never met me because if he had he would know otherwise.
He states that I am masquerading studying for ministry. Well for those who know me I want even address that since I am sure that this is info he got from Henry Wayne Monk or some other unreliable source. I am a MINISTER, not trying to be, Perfect by no means glad to experience the grace of God - certainly. I supposse you think that godly persons don't have hardships. Quite the opposite. He references my wife of whom he has never talked to and even slanders her innocent name. Sir my wife has her own job and has had it for 17 years and has never worked one day with me. The last time I checked it was not against the law to file bankruptcy if you need to and you more than anyone should know this. He says that I am a common thief. Corrections thieves take things against others will. You willingly paid me for a service that I fell behind on rendering. I am sure you being an attorney know how to commonly steal from others and then go home and sleep well. As for the seventh commandment - Thou Shalt not Steal is correct - so I am glad I did not steal anything from you. The same set of commandments also say don't bear false witness and I will let you figure out which number it is and what it means.
If Thomas Guiffra would be honest with himself instead of letting his temper boil then maybe he can express the truth. Which is, he put a $1,000 deposit down willingly and then months and days went by with delays from his end and mine until finally we were all set but at the time I was having these difficulties and was not able to provide it later on because of them. But he feels that since he is an Attorney that he should get what he wants when he wants it and since I was not able to provide it right then and there he decided to slander me. God bless you and may the Lord repay you according to the intent of you heart. I did agree to pay him back but was unable to because of the financial strains from everything else. Once I post a link to all the work that I have done then you make your own decision on things. It's incredible to me that I could have all these receipts, material and other business details and more than 20 times satisfied clients compared to the 66 which is not accurate reported by the media and BBB and state. Thanks for the benefit of the doubt but I know why and you do to as to why I wasn't given one. It is not against the law to have more than one business either.
I will be adding all emails from him to show you exactly how things went . Be sure to look at the dates on them. My layway policy was 4 months and even though he paid a deposit of $1,000 dollars down our communication was sporadic and his order changed multiple times and there were times I had to wait for his input as you will see in the emails. I ordered his picture and kept things in preparation mode after months had gone by. However, things for a lot of business have changed in the last 5 years and mine was no exception. So as you discern from his report he is angry that now because after months of going back and forth with things he is now ready and I am suppossed to go presto it's done. I will be posting the picture later on. His stencil pattern never was cut but I know there were at least 4 changes over the order period and his stone color choice was never finalized and his order got caught in the ripple effect of business. He would have stilled owed a balance and to date has used his position to elevate himself and became indignent to pacify his anger and joined in with the others to support what the accusers have stated.
When did I come to New York and steal his money. Breach of contract, perhaps, stole his money no way. No business owner wants to have hardships but sometimes they do and when they do all you can say is I am sorry and try to catch up but of course when you have injunctions against yor business that becomes a task.
Layout Changes over time. My layouts were done by an outside source who started billing me extra for all the re-do's.

Hello,
My name is Marcus with www.jonesmemorials.com and I want to thank you for contacting us again and I am sorry that it has taken me so long to respond but I do have great news. My guy Ray can set it for $180.00 up to 48 inches on the base. He was familiar with the pet cemetery to and said that they had size restrictions too so if you would let me know which design you like and the size and we can get the ball rolling for you. Also, if you will leave me a phone # to call you to discuss your order.
Thanks

Dear Marcus,
I wanted to get the ball rolling on my monument. I was hoping to get some guidance from you regarding design and layout.
I like the following styles: 92109A, 92110A and 92120A. I prefer unfinished edges. It is for a family plot, but I don’t like the ones where they have the last name on top and the first name and dates below. I prefer the complete name. The plot can accommodate three pets, so I need to keep size in mind.
For my dog’s inscription, I would want the following:
Name: MICKEY P. GIUFFRA, III
Dates: June 12, 1988 - June 15, 2004
Always Loved * Never Forgotten * Adored By Her Family
Where the asterix is I would want the little diamond design that are used on monuments to break up phrases
For her name I like that fat kind of block letter. I would also want to use one of those medium sized plates for her picture.
As far as designs surrounding the inscription I would need your guidance. Please bear in mind that I want to leave room for two additional pets names.
Thanks for your help!
Best regards
Thomas

Hello,
Great, please select a carving that you like from the site and let me know its design # and the size you want it to be, the color and then fax me over a draft showing me how you want it to look so I can match it on our end. We can do the block letters with no problem but the extra wording may have to be lin upon line instead of in one line since its long and we need to leave room the same size as Mickey's at least for the other 2 pets.
Our fax # is 1-775-562-5765.
Thanks

Dear Marcus,
I think the design is good, but I had a few questions.
1. Is it possible to have 3 names running horizontally or is there not enough space on the stone?
2. Can we go up a size on the stone?
3. What do you recommend for color gray or red?
Best regards

Hello,
I am glad you had a chance to review the draft. The base at the cemetery can be no larger than 48" long so normally the top on a base that size is 36" long but I suppose we can make it 42" long to see if we can put the info on 1 line which will leave 3 inches on each side if the cemetery will accept it. Send me the other pets names and dates so we can see if it will fit. Also, fax me over what you have in mind on a sheet of paper to
1-775-562-5765
.
As for the color the red cost more so that would lreally be up to you. We will make it look great in whatever color you prefer the grey granite or the american red color.
Thx

Dear Marcus,
I am going to send a deposit of $1,000. to get things started on the headstone. I have had a delay because my mother wants to add the name and photo of her childhood dog on the back of the stone along with the name and photo of my childhood dog. The only problem is that this dog passed in the 1940’s and there is only one photo that exists of her. Long story short, my mom is trying to track down the photo. I have given her a deadline and if she does not get it I will just put the picture of my childhood dog on the back in the center. I was thinking about increasing the height as well because the photos will be vertical. On the back it would read:
In Loving Memory
Mickey McAnena
Dates
Mickey P. Giuffra, II
Dates.
Please give me the price for Grey Granite and American Red. Also let me know your address.
Again sorry for the delay.
Best regards

Hello,
Thomas, I would love ot have your business but at this time we are no longer taking credit cards through paypal due to the fact that we have done and shipped 2 stones in the amount of 1400 of which customers done chargebacks on after they received the product and after we litigated
PayPal
just said well there was nothing they could do since the customer went through their
credit card company
to do this but either way we have to use extra resources to get our money and its just not worth it.
We will be changing that on hte web site next week.
If you would like to order this you can mail in a check or money order for your order or a
credit card convenience
check if you wish to use your credit line.
Let me know if I can help more.

Sorry for the long delay, but I have been unable to finish this memorial. I wanted to see “forever in our hearts” in lieu of “adored by family”. I would also remove the lower cross and perhaps use a larger font. Could you also send me other font options? Also can I use a 48” wide marker?
I promise to have this long overdue monument completed within the next two weeks.

Hello Thomas,
I have gotten your emails and will send the revised layout on this tomorrow or later today. I have been off work for various reasons but am back now and do look forward to wrapping your order up.
Let's Recap,
You want the stone to be a single flat marker and not an upright? You also want to change the words to
“forever in our hearts” in lieu of “adored by family” as well as remove the lower cross and perhaps use a larger font. Could you also send me other font options?
Also, Thomas, we have many type of fonts e-mail me a cut and paste of a font you may want.
Thanks

Hi Marcus,
Welcome back!
Recap: Stone
1. Should be an upright
2. “Forever in our hearts” in lieu of “adored by family”
3. Remove lower cross
4. Larger font – could I see options with existing style and the font on CMW 135 on the website.
5. Edges of stone should be rough unpolished.
6. Possibly larger stone if I can get away with it at cemetery.
7. Don’t forget I need to use your installer.
Best regards

Great! Just don’t forget the typo. One last question, what color do you recommend. I was thinking red or pink, but I would defer to your expertise. Also don’t forget that your guy in the Bronx will do the install.

Hi Marcus,
I see you are back in business you thief. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that you do not steal from anybody else.
Now that I see that you are back in business, expect to get sued by the end of the month.

By the way. I owe you a tombstone that we went back and forth on for 2 years I think for $1000.00 down payment and that's it. If I could have avoided the problems I certainly would have but again because you paid me $1000.00 that was not going to keep the doors open 2 years later and other problems to follow. Again, I have a shop, have a biz license and have been doing this business for years and have most of my customers products here at my shop but because I suppose of self projection you guys just had to believe the hype.
All of my clients including you will be taken care of as soon as I am able to either complete the orders or make restitution.
As for revenge, not a bone in my body will do that. For me it's all about recovering that which has been lost and overcoming these challenges so you do what you gotta do won't be intimidated by your unfactual claim. Yes. you ordered a stone. No you have not recieved it but yes I still have the original paperowork and other components for your order.
So as you know you have that right to sue to recover losses etc so again I am not mad about it but I assure you that you Don't have the facts except for I haven't gotten my stone yet.
Marcus

Hello Tom,
I still have your address and will start making payments to you as soon as I can minus the cost of the picture. As you and I both know we did numerous layouts and other work time on this. I will mail the picture when I start making payments to you.
Thanks
Marcus

Marcus you have to be crazy.
You don’t do the work. You ignore my letters and emails and expect me to give you a credit for something I paid for from another monument company? What about the interest that you owe me? The “work” you did has not benefited me at all. It merely induced me to give you $1000 of my money which you have stolen. The only way I received a response from you is to let people know what kind of “business” you run.
How about this? You send me a certified check for $1000 and I will post a listing that you made good on your obligations and pull my negative review.
Your sad story about the economy is several years too late. The economy was booming when you got my money.

Hello,
You can expect to be paid as soon as I can start hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I will be in touch. For the record regardless of what you think I am not responding to you because of your reports but because I am finally able to resume things to attempt to pick up where I left off. You just so happen to email me before I emailed you.

I will give you a month and then do what I have to do. If you make good, I will be shocked and honor my part of the deal.

Final thought. He is correct the economy WAS Booming or at least it appeared to be but that has nothing to do with his order nearly 21/2 years later that we went back and forth on because of all the changes from him and still never finalized a color. I am sure in his world his economy is still good but for millions of us we do have to face the facts that the economy is not where it used to be and as a result, a lot of businesses, banks, homes are CLOSED due to lack of money. I treat all my clients the same, rich, poor, black white or other ethnicity's and those who know me are witnesses to this so I am sorry that I was not able to pacify his elite expectations because he is an attorney but scamming had nothing to do with the outcome of his order. The recesssion did not happen overnight and those of us who pay our way felt its pinch as early as 2006. By the time we finally got around further the other events were sandbagging my efforts. We had a lot of time invested in this order and I ordered his porcelain picture, did multiple layouts and of course that does not count for anything. I wonder if he refunds clients who retain him and then switch after he has done all the preliminary work. I do intend to repay my clients when I can or maybe the State will come and liquidate all the material that is there and repay them from the proceeds. It is more than $30,000 worth of material there so they should be able to send him $1,000 of it but I forgot the State Attorneys will get their cut first and then maybe send what is left over to clients.
